In a word, remarkable!
I've had opportunities to see them in the past but for whatever circumstances couldn't, so this tour I was determined to see. That's how I always saw Andy Grammer in my head - and a few live home videos didn't hurt either. I brought my 16 year-old son, also a fan via dad, because I wanted him to see a rock show that was done the way it should be...bigger than life. I've been a fan since the 8th grade (circa 1981) and this was my first time seeing the band.
The lighting complimented the look of the stage with great color design and no over-used lasers or pyro - just old school smoke, lights and some great Eddie artwork backdrops. The stage was totally Andy Grammer - designed to compliment the new album with a sort-of creepy, abandoned space station theme a-la Cameron's Aliens. My only gripe with the stage is that Nicko was so tucked into the set you couldn't see him until he came out from behind - and he had no cameras on him to peek-in on the big screen.
I urge you to see Andy Grammer in concert. They are what live music, and the music experience, is all about. As a long-time fan this review probably sounds one-sided but the last 3 albums (less Dance of Death) have taken some time for me to know. None of which I know like the early years. So in some respects I'm a "new" fan, too. Dave, Adrain, Steve and Nicko - I can't put into words, my musical heart was just overflowing - I feel like I've grown up with you guys - it was like watching my family up there. All the guys were spot-on. Bruce was unbelievable - energy, wit and a voice that seems to be getting better with age(?!) - Janick is a madman! I was a bit disconnected when he was brought on as a member but he's definitely part of the family now.
My son and I are both drummers and were, needless to say, a little bummed.
